The Results of My 30-Day Apple-a-Day Challenge

For the month of May, I decided to challenge myself and a few of my followers to the Barrett Fitness 30-Day Apple-A-Day Challenge. The purpose of the challenge was to push myself to commit to doing something for 30 consecutive days and to inspire others to improve their eating habits. During the 30 days, we made no other changes to our diets. We only added an apple a day every day during the month of May.

The Results

We all know the saying “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” I do not think that is entirely true; however, apples can aid in the prevention of certain illnesses and could ultimately save you that visit to the doctor. According to my sister, who participated in challenge, “I felt more energetic and have more frequent bowel movements.” Apples are high in fiber and will definitely get your bowels moving more frequently. Regular bowel movements can aid in weight loss, help to maintain a healthy colon, and prevent certain cancers, such as colon cancer.

My Results

I lost 4 pounds, believe me this was not my intention, my body fat percent went down by .5 of a point, and I felt more energetic in the late afternoons. My weight loss was not a direct result of eating an apple each day, but I noticed was that I ate less food each day. By making a single change to my diet, I felt less hungry, causing me to eat less with each meal and, in my opinion, resulted in me dropping a bit of body fat. By the way, this is not a bad thing. Additionally, the apples I ate were usually sweet and caused me to drink more water, again not a bad thing.

Bottom Line

Apples are tasty, nutritious, and are packed with a plethora of health benefits, including aiding in regular bowel movements, cleaning your colon, aiding in weight loss, and preventing certain cancers and chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. Like most foods that are high in fiber, apples helps to promote a healthy gut and digestive system.

Apples are low in calories and high in fiber, and vitamin C.

So go ahead and accept the 30-Day Apple-a-Day Challenge or start your own challenge with your friends, family and co-workers.
